A thesis on prospective modeling for the long-term study of energy strategies in South America has been underway since 2012, under the responsibility of Nadia MAÏZI and Sandrine SELOSSE.

This thesis is jointly supervised by the Mathematical Modeling Centre of the Universidad de Chile (Santiago de Chile), and part of it is carried out in Santiago de Chili.

Run by Sébastien POSTIC, this thesis called “TIMES modeling for Latin America", aims at developing a TIMES model for South America, by relying on CMA’s technical expertise in this type of model, and on the CMM’s expertise regarding modeling applied to South American energy problems. This TIMES-ALyC model (for “America Latina y el Caribe”, or Latin America and the Caribbean) that will boost the collection of models of the same type that already exist at the CMA will be created according to the TIMES paradigm, based notably on the global TIAM-FR model, to be able to interface with it and deal with major international Energy-Climate problems. In particular, Sébastien will be able to rely on the experience of its partner laboratory, the CMM in the field of stochastic modeling. This will allow the impact of several sources of concern regarding assessing South American energy policies to be explored and discussed.
